چکیده

the nutrient deficiency. The apparent narrow temperature range of maximum growth found in the old cultures of Chlorella and Anacystis also seem to be caused by such secondary effects. We have therefore prepared table I from the earliest clear pattern that developed. It should represent the optimum conditions for cultivating these algae. In figure 4 the development of a Chlorella pyrenoidosa and of an Anabaena culture are also shown. Some difficulties in preparing a uniform inoculum of the Anabaena are evident in the figure but do not distort the conclusions appreciably. With Haematococcus some growth was evident over the temperature range of 12 to 330 C and light intensities from 50 to 1000 ft-c with greater growth toward the high temperature side. At the higher intensities the color was red and shaded to brownish green at intensities below about 200 ft-c. The optima were broad and not clearly shown in this experiment.

Abscisic acid content of a nondormant sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) mutant

A sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) mutant was observed in the progeny of a cross between the sunflower cultivar HA 89 and an amphiploid of a H. divaricatus L. × P21 cross that exhibited loss of dormancy induction in the developing embryo. Seeds of this mutant frequently germinate on the head about 40 d after pollination (DAP). In contrast to other nondormant sunflower mutants reported previousl...

Involvement of Endogenous Abscisic Acid in Onset and Release of Helianthus annuus Embryo Dormancy.

Mature seeds of Helianthus annuus L. exhibit dormancy that is eliminated during storage in dry conditions. In vitro culture of immature embryos isolated at different times after anthesis showed that the youngest embryos are able to germinate, but within the third week after pollination, dormancy progressively affected most of the embryos. A radioimmunoassay showed that the endogenous abscisic a...

ROS production and protein oxidation as a novel mechanism for seed dormancy alleviation.

At harvest, sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) seeds are dormant and unable to germinate at temperatures below 15 degrees C. Seed storage in the dry state, known as after-ripening, is associated with an alleviation of embryonic dormancy allowing subsequent germination at suboptimal temperatures. To identify the process by which dormancy is broken during after-ripening, we focused on the role of r...

Targeted mRNA oxidation regulates sunflower seed dormancy alleviation during dry after-ripening.

After-ripening is the mechanism by which dormant seeds become nondormant during their dry storage after harvest. The absence of free water in mature seeds does not allow detectable metabolism; thus, the processes associated with dormancy release under these conditions are largely unknown. We show here that sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seed alleviation of dormancy during after-ripening is assoc...

Release of sunflower seed dormancy by cyanide: cross-talk with ethylene signalling pathway

Freshly harvested sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) seeds are considered to be dormant because they fail to germinate at relatively low temperatures (10 degrees C). This dormancy results mainly from an embryo dormancy and disappears during dry storage. Although endogenous ethylene is known to be involved in sunflower seed alleviation of dormancy, little attention had been paid to the possible ro...
